National Recycling WeekOctober 9, 2015
This week celebrates National Recycling Week, an initiative which aims to improve the positive environmental outcomes of recycling by increasing community awareness, increasing collection rates and reducing contamination.
Did you know that Australia is the second highest producer of waste per person in the world, contributing a shocking 650 kilograms per person?! Australia sits behind the United States of America, which produces approximately 715 kilograms per person.
To help reduce our contribution to landfill, not-for-profit organisation, Community Veracity developed a Community Recycling Program which not only helps to remove material from the waste stream but also helps our participants gain warehousing skills and knowledge.
The program, carried out in warehouses in Geelong and Werribee, is available to organisations seeking commercial recycling who need products scrapped and recycled professionally and efficiently.
Recycled products can either be reused in their existing form or broken down to create new products.
By recycling, we are helping to conserve our planet’s shrinking natural resources. The benefits of recycling include:
- Saving energy and water used in the manufacturing process, because goods created from recycled products are better for the environment’s supply of natural resources.
- Helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Increasing the lifespan of landfill sites.
The Recycling Program is all about giving back to the community and the environment. It’s a perfect fit for Community Veracity’s philosophy of empowering people, whether they are a part of Work for the Dole programs and Community Corrections Programs or individuals just wanting to enhance their skills and knowledge.
