Grow The Future Horticulture Program

In 2018 Community Veracity in collaboration with National Food Institute (RTO 3821) and Apprenticeships Matter developed “Grow the Future: Horticulture Program”.   A number of local Geelong secondary schools including Nelson Park and Clonard College offer this program to their students as a school based traineeship offering training in AHC201416 Certificate II in Horticulture.

Grow The Future Horticultural Program promotes social inclusiveness, personal development and workplace engagement for the student participants.  The participants learn valuable workplace skills including; conduct, professionalism and that diversity is valued, the abilities of the person go beyond the disability encouraging the individual to build on their strengths and overcome weaknesses in a supportive team environment.  Students have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge leading them into future employment and/or educational pathways.

Through this program Community Veracity is working toward beautifying and creating useable garden spaces in their facilities, focusing on reusing and recycling products – reducing landfill- and growing produce to use in other Community Veracity programs, with the overall aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all program participants.

Currently operating 2 days per week, Tuesday and Thursday, Community Veracity aims to be able to deliver this program 5 days per week, offering participation opportunities to more local students.
